Medical Respite Program Receives National Recognition
We are thrilled to share that the National Healthcare for the Homeless Council (NHCHC) plans to recognize RecoveryWorks’ Medical Respite Program in their first group of nationally certified medical respite care programs!
Our respite program launched in 2021 with 11 semi-private rooms at 7011 W. Colfax is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care for our guests. In 2024, the program moved to Mountain View Flats at 14825 W. Colfax. This gave more room to grow and assist more people. We couldn’t have launched it without your help and the support of Kaiser Foundation, Recovery Foundation and Stride Medical. We also want to give a BIG thanks to Jefferson County Human Services, SCL Health/Intermountain Healthcare, UC Health, and Jefferson County Public Health. These partners help to provide a variety of services that make this program successful.

As anticipated, The City of Lakewood will start renovations in May at 8000 W. Colfax, where the Lakewood Navigation Center is located. These upgrades will create a year round emergency shelter, the first of its kind in Jefferson County, and will complement the existing navigation center on site. Construction is expected to be completed by late fall 2025. RecoveryWorks will continue operating its Medical Respite and Bridge Housing programs at Mountain View Flats.

RecoveryWorks Partners with City of Lakewood
for Severe Weather Shelter
In November 2024, RecoveryWorks partnered with the City of Lakewood to run the severe weather shelter at 8000 W. Colfax. The shelter opens when nighttime temperatures drop below 20°F without precipitation or 32°F with precipitation and will remain open through April.
Thanks to your donations, food, and support; the assistance from the City of Lakewood and Jefferson County; and the dedication of our staff, we are able to provide safe conditions for 125 people each night at the shelter and nearby motels. The shelter protects many vulnerable and disabled guests from hypothermia and frostbite. For a full list of severe weather shelters in Jefferson County, visit the Heading Home site.

Meet Dennis as he shares his story and how his experience at RecoveryWorks helped him navigate his journey out of homelessness.
“I grew up in Wheat Ridge and graduated from Jefferson High School. Though I didn’t graduate, I truly loved school. I got married and had three kids and 5 foster kids. My son passed away in a tragic accident at the State Hospital years ago. It was devastating and I was very depressed for a long time.
I owned two houses in my life and used to buy antique cars, fix them up and sell them. After many years, my wife and I divorced and I ended up living in my car because most of my income went to pay child support. I had my own business for many years, Color Change Painting, and I just retired last year at age 62. I worked hard my whole life, even while I was homeless. The hardest part of being on the streets …”

Your Support Keeps Us Strong:
A Federal Funding Update
Dear Supporters & Friends,
We want to update you on the recent federal funding situation as it relates to RecoveryWorks. While we receive several federal grants that support our operations, it appears that, as of today, we face no immediate impact. However, the ability to secure federal grants in the future to support program operations remains uncertain.
During this time of changing federal priorities, we are most grateful for your support as donors. Your generosity gives stability to our organization, our dedicated staff, and the unhoused neighbors we serve. If you’ve donated before, thank you. Please consider committing to a regular contribution. If you haven’t donated before, there’s no better time to start donating than now. Over 90% of your donations directly support guests by providing emergency responses including food, housing-focused case management, mail service, medical, mental health and addiction services. We also provide transitional housing and direct access to long-term stable housing and support services. In 2024 your contributions allowed us to serve 1,141 unhoused neighbors (a 295% increase from 2023) and house 110 (a 90% increase from 2023).
Thank you for your continued support and for being a vital part of our mission!
