A Note From Executive Director James Ginsburg

We often hear how much people value the guest stories we share—stories of resilience and what it takes to keep going when life is very difficult.
All of us face hard times. Often, the difference between staying housed and losing housing comes down to access to the right resources at the right time.
At RecoveryWorks, we aim to be that resource —a stabilizing force where someone can step out of survival mode and move forward. When someone has stability, everything else becomes possible.
This spring, we’re launching our Spring Campaign, with two community events in May to bring people together and grow our circle of support. We only make a few direct asks each year, and as we head into May, we’ll be sharing stories and inviting you to be part of this work. Please consider making a gift to help expand our impact and ensure more neighbors in Jefferson County can access stability.
We also celebrate National Volunteer Week. Volunteers have been an important part of RecoveryWorks’ story from the very beginning, helping create a welcoming environment for every guest. We are deeply grateful for the time and generosity they bring.
With Gratitude,

A Turning Point
Jose’s Story
“From day one, I was treated like a person—a human being—with total respect. To feel welcomed and loved meant a lot to me.”
Jose came to Colorado from New Orleans in 2007 after Hurricane Katrina forced him to relocate and rebuild. For years, he did just that—married for nearly three decades, owning a home in Jefferson County, and living what he calls the “American dream.”
But in 2016, things began to unravel.
“I got divorced, and I slowly started going downhill,” Jose says. “I got really depressed, started isolating, drinking more and more.”
He lost his job. Then his home. Eventually, he found himself living in an extended-stay hotel, paying nearly $700 a week—burning through what little he had left.
Before long, Jose was homeless, living in his car for nearly two years while continuing to work at a local tire shop.
Then, early this year, something unexpected happened.

Celebrate 5 Years with Us!
As we mark 5 years of RecoveryWorks, we’d love for you to join us at Mountain View Flats for a small celebration and the opening of our new patio. It’s a chance to come together, reflect on how far we’ve come, and connect as a community.
For those not local, we’ll share ways to participate and support in the coming weeks.
Looking forward to celebrating together!

Volunteer Spotlight: Jim | AcuDetox
Jim places AcuDetox points during a weekly session with a guest.
Jim has been volunteering with RecoveryWorks since our first year, offering weekly AcuDetox sessions—a simple ear acupuncture practice that helps calm the body, reduce stress, and support recovery.
“A lot of people come in pretty dysregulated. The goal is just to help calm the nervous system—give them a chance to breathe, maybe sleep a little better, and feel a bit more at ease,” Jim says.
We’re deeply grateful for volunteers like Jim who help create a steady, welcoming environment for our guests.
We’ve recently expanded our volunteer opportunities—learn more below.
