Increase In Number of Unhoused in Jefferson County and the Region |
| | |
Each year, partners work together to implement the Colorado Point in Time Count. This annual census counts the number of people experiencing homelessness, staying in transitional housing or shelter, or living in outdoor spaces. RecoveryWorks is a partner on this important data collection project. The regional, 7-county overview shows a 31.7% increase over 2022 with 9,065 people experiencing homelessness in 2023, with 2 out of 5 experiencing homelessness for the first time. Jefferson County identified 854 people experiencing homelessness, a 73.2% increase over 2022, with 204 in a shelter, 177 in transitional housing and 473 unsheltered. Roughly half were newly homeless. Thank you to all the partners who support the Point in Time survey.

An Added Benefit for RecoveryWorks’ Donors!
RecoveryWorks is excited to announce donors are eligible to participate in the Colorado Homeless Contribution Income Tax Credit Program. If you are a Colorado resident, one of the easiest ways to make a difference in the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness is through this exciting new program. Providing an incredible incentive and benefit to donors, Coloradans that donate more than $250 dollars to RecoveryWorks after January 1, 2023 may participate. Donors can claim 25% of their donation as a state income tax credit. Participation in the program is entirely voluntary. Additionally, RecoveryWorks will enroll you in the program to make the process as easy as possible. Finally, it is important to note that due to state regulations, donations made through a Donor Advised Fund, or through other intermediary organizations, i.e. Mile High United Way, Community First Foundation (Colorado Gives Day) do not qualify.
Enrollment is not automatic. For more information, please contact Molly Hanson, Development Director, at 720-643-2721 or [email protected]. Thank you. |

NEW! RecoveryWorks Community Garden Plots |
RecoveryWorks staff and guests worked together to build our first community garden beds at RecoveryWorks this summer. The space is an opportunity for staff and guests to connect with one another, create an even stronger feeling of community and belonging at our location, and bring growing practices to an urban environment. Staff and guests look forward to harvesting fresh vegetables in late summer and fall for our communal meals.
Thank you to the guests and staff that worked so hard to bring our two new garden beds to RecoveryWorks! |

Monthly Circle of Friends SupportRecoveryWorks Dinner Meal Drop Off Program |
RecoveryWorks medical respite program provides housing for unhoused individuals after a hospitalization. Each evening, our guests gather around the table for a warm home-cooked meal prepared by a volunteer in the community. For the past two years, a group of dedicated Jefferson County women have been preparing meals together for our medical respite guests. Calling themselves the “Empty Nesters,” Marie “Gus” Carpenter, Carly Garza, Macel Foster, Pauline Jensen, and Gloria Catillo, have been connected for many more years. Originally, their social group made quilts for Jefferson County community members experiencing loss or hardship. Now, they have turned their energy and passion toward RecoveryWorks and we are eternally grateful. Together, they make delicious meals for 10-13 of our guests each month. This group also regularly donates items to RecoveryWorks to fill gaps and special needs. Finally, we want to send a very warm “thank you” to Michelle Andrews, Gus’s daughter. Michelle Andrews is the RecoveryWorks lead volunteer that organizes our Dinner Meal Drop Off program. Michelle is a tireless volunteer that has been supporting RecoveryWorks since its inception. Thank you!
